Music Works offers ONLINE classes for students of all ages and skill levels. These classes are creatively designed for online group learning, and use the same teaching standards as we use during our in-person sessions. You can register TODAY by clicking the link. Music and Mindfulness for Adults

Taking time each day to be fully present in the moment is something we can all benefit from. This practice, known as mindfulness, can help reduce stress, increase focus, and facilitate creativity and problem-solving skills. In this class we will discuss the basic concepts of mindfulness and use music to practice thinking in the present, non-judgement, and the beginner’s mind. Whether you’re new to mindfulness, or have been practicing it for years, this class is for you! Invitations to online platform will be sent out prior to class start date.

Ukulele 101

Students will learn the basics of ukulele in a virtual group setting. Starting with the fundamentals of ukulele and music theory, students will learn everything they need to start playing their favorite songs quickly. Students will learn how to tune a ukulele, play basic chords, and build the fundamentals to jam to their favorite songs. Each student will have access to a google drive folder with songs and class materials. A Google account is not mandatory for participating. After completing Ukulele 101, students may transition to private lessons or explore other group classes!

Ukulele- Theory and the Blues

Novel learners will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of music theory such as scales, chord progressions, and transposing through learning the basic 12 bar blues. Each student will have access to a google drive folder with songs and class materials. A Google account is not mandatory for participating. Previous ukulele experience is not required.

Ukulele- Advanced

Students who already have a basic understanding of standard chords and strumming patterns can learn more advanced techniques in this group through chord variations, bar chords, tablature, and more complex rhythmic strumming patterns. Students will

have the opportunity to bring specific songs or concepts that they would like to master to this group class.

Ukulele- Song Writing

This class is designed for young artists to begin or move forward in their songwriting journey. Students will have the opportunity to share pre-existing songs and will have their creativity sparked by new writing prompts. In a virtual round robin platform students will be able to encourage their peers and provide positive feedback. Previous ukulele experience required.

Jazz Listening Lab

Listen to America's art form - JAZZ! From jazz's long history we will delve into the songs that made it famous. We will discuss their part in the evolution of the art form, and analyze the artists and composers, and their melodies and harmonies.

Ableton Recording Course

Ableton Live is one of the premier and most popular music production/recording softwares being used today (including Flying Lotus, DeadMau5, Diplo, Jon Hopkins, M83, Imogen Heap to name a few). Unlike most DAWs (digital audio workstations), it is both a tool for recording and live performance (as the name suggests). In this course we'll be focusing on using Ableton to record yourself in the more "traditional" sense. We'll cover all the basics: - Setting up your Audio Preferences - Gain structure and Signal Path - Tracking individual & multiple instruments live instruments - Using MIDI instruments - Overdubbing - Clever tips, tricks, and work arounds - Basic Mixing

- Using FX - etc...

Each week class will consist of 30-45min of lesson and 15-30 minutes of question/sharing time. Each week students will be expected to complete simple assignments for the following week. No more than 1-2 hours of work per week. By the end of the session you'll have a brand new track recorded and produced entirely by you!

Online Platform: Skype (best for screen sharing) Requirements: Ableton live 9 or 10, audio interface for Mic and Inst (2 channel minimum), 1-2 yrs of music experience. (we will only be using stock Ableton plug-ins for this session).

Ableton Adv. Mixing Course

Ableton Live is one of the premier and most popular music production/recording softwares being used today (including Flying Lotus, DeadMau5, Diplo, Jon Hopkins, M83, Imogen Heap to name a few). Unlike most DAWs (digital audio workstations), it is both a tool for recording and live performance (as the name suggests). In this course we'll be focusing on mixing in Ableton, a true joy.

As this is a more advanced class the requirements are also more advanced. I'll provide stems so everyone is working on the same song. We'll take the song from raw audio to final mix in 4 weeks... Week 1 - Drums, EQs and Compression

Week 2 - Bass, Rhythms Section, Panning,

Week 3 - Horns & Vocals, Melody, Reverb, Week 4 - FX & Level Balancing

Each week class will consist of 30-45min of lesson and 15-30 minutes of question/discussion time. Any student interested enough in mixing to take this course certainly has things to offer the class as well so there will be time for everyone to share their ideas. Each week students will be expected to complete an assignment for the following week. No more than 2-4 hours of work per week.

Synths & Synthesis

Synths are the driving force behind much of modern music. They are a powerhouse instrument capable of an enormously wide spectrum of sound. For that reason however, they can be somewhat intimidating. In this course, we'll crack the synthesis code. We'll walk through the basics of synthesis and how to create unique and exciting sounds. You'll be lost a synth world before you know it (which is a good thing i promise, synth world is a great, great place). Online Platform: Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, whatever the class members have best access to. Requirements: A synthesizer. Songwriting

Now in our time of quarantine is a great time to start writing songs. You're stuck at home anyways, might as well pick up an instrument and noodle around, right? Well here's the class for you. We will cover song structure, chord progressions, melodies, harmonies, writing lyrics... the whole spectrum. By by the end of the month you’ll have your very own original song!

Online Platform: Skype, FaceTime, Zoom,

Requirements: Minimum 2 yrs of experience on an instrument, ideal chordal (I.e. piano, guitar, etc). A willingness to sing to at least get your ideas out there. Pen and paper
