Music Works offers ONLINE classes for students of all ages and skill levels. These classes are creatively designed for online group learning, and use the same teaching standards as we use during our in-person sessions. You can register TODAY by clicking the link. Virtual Parent and Me Group Piano

Learn or rediscover the piano during group lessons with your child! This class is a how-to guide on how to nurture your growing pianist. This class allows adults to learn or return to the piano while developing strategies with at-home practice and developing their own piano skills. All skill levels are welcome! From the parent with little to no experience, as well as the professional musician who can assist in learning duets with their child. Please note that students will need access to a piano or keyboard in order to participate in this class.

Virtual Beginning Group Piano

Learn piano in a fun group experience! In this piano group for beginners we will be learning basics of the keyboard: note reading, finger numbers, rhythm, technique, playing by ear, and exploring different musical concepts and styles. We will have fun picking songs and pieces to learn throughout the season and culminate in a final performance!

Virtual Instrument Discovery

Violins, flutes, and drums, oh my! Do you love music but want to learn more about different instruments? Then this is the class for you! Students will be introduced to a variety of musical instruments through videos and listening, while learning basic musical concepts. Instructor and Music Works faculty member Joshua Romatowski (flute and piccolo) will share his love of music during this fun-filled class of instrument exploration.

Virtual Introduction to Classical Music Theory​

Learn about the basic building blocks of classical music in this creative introduction to music theory. We will learn about scales, intervals, chords, harmony and counterpoint through hands-on activities like those used by young composers of the past from Bach to Debussy: harmonizing melodies, realizing bass lines and composing counterpoint. Music theory is a great way to improve your ear and musicianship, and it can be creative and rewarding too. 

This class is recommended for students 11 and up who have 3 or more years of instrumental or vocal study and can read music notation fluently. Keyboard experience is a plus but not required.

Now in our time of quarantine is a great time to start writing songs. You're stuck at home anyways, might as well pick up an instrument and noodle around right? Well here's the class for you. We will cover song structure, chord progressions, melodies, harmonies, writing lyrics... the whole spectrum. By the end of the class you’ll have at least one if not many of your very own original songs!

Requirements: Minimum 2 yrs of experience on an instrument, ideally a chordal instrument (I.e. piano, guitar, etc). A willingness to sing to at least get your ideas out there. Pen and paper.

Virtual Ableton Recording for Ages 11-15
Ableton Live is one of the premier and most popular music production/recording softwares being used today. Unlike most DAWs (digital audio workstations), it is both a tool for recording and live performance. In this course we'll be focusing on using Ableton to record yourself in the more "traditional" sense.
We'll cover all the basics:
- Setting up your Audio Preferences
- Gain structure and Signal Path
- Tracking individual & multiple instruments & live instruments
- Using MIDI instruments
- Overdubbing
- Clever tips, tricks, and work arounds
- Basic Mixing

- Using FX
- etc...

Each week class will consist of 30-45min of lesson and 15-30 minutes of question/sharing time. Each week students will be expected to complete simple assignments for the following week. No more than 1-2 hours of work per week. By the end of the session you'll have a brand new track recorded and produced entirely by you!

Requirements: Ableton live 9 or 10, audio interface for Mic and Instrument (2 channel minimum), 1-2 yrs of music experience. (we will only be using stock Ableton plug-ins for this session).

Ableton Live is one of the premier and most popular music production/recording softwares being used today. Unlike most DAWs (digital audio workstations), it is both a tool for recording and live performance. In this course we'll be focusing on mixing in Ableton, a true joy.
As this is a more advanced class the requirements are also more advanced. I'll provide stems so everyone is working on the same song. We'll take the song from raw audio to final mix in 6-8 weeks...
- Drums, EQs and Compression

- Bass, Rhythm Section, Panning

- Strings & Vocals, Melody, Reverb 
- FX & Level Balancing
After that we can spend the later classes working on our own music/projects and sharing tips and tricks.

Each week class will consist of 30-45min of lesson and 15-30 minutes of question/discussion time. Each week students will be expected to complete an assignment for the following week. No more than 2-4 hours of work per week.
Requirements: Ableton live 9 or 10, audio interface for Mic and Instrument (2 channel minimum). I will be using a lot of WAVES plug-ins for this course and it will be easier if you have the same ones but it's not a requirement per say...

Virtual Music Adventures Take-Home Class

Join the world of music! Music is a world of movement, jamming with instruments, playing and singing. Children this age with special needs often want to join this musical world but require special consideration for their individual sensory needs. Each family will receive five video playlists of music activities that you and your child can do together on your own time and at your own pace. Since this is a self-paced class, you may schedule your five class days anytime in October through January. We recommend that participants have a few small percussion instruments at home for use during the class (Here is an example).

Skills addressed through music include cooperation, social awareness, collaboration, social greetings/farewell, social imitation, emotional regulation strategies, and communication. Virtual Sing It Out! Choir

Sing It Out! Choir is a music therapy group open to students ages 13 through teens with differing needs and abilities who love to sing. Focusing on musical skill building, participants will learn to express themselves musically by singing with others and exploring a variety of musical styles. Making music enhances attention skills, social skills, cognitive skills, and gives everyone opportunities for expression. The last class of the 15-week session will be a performance for friends and family.

Virtual Adaptive Musical Theatre​

Bring on the show-tunes! In this class, teens and young adults will work together to create, rehearse and perform a short musical theatre performance. Participants will have the opportunity to choose a song that they would like to perform for the final week, and we’ll work together to create a script and dances. The class will be adapted to participants’ interests and strengths to ensure that everyone is included at their own comfort level. This class is most appropriate for teens and young adults with special needs who are able to communicate verbally or with an AAC device.

Virtual Voices of Sunshine Choir

Join Voices of Sunshine! We are a community choir for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities focused on using our most natural instrument - our voices to make music, make friends, and to have fun! All levels of vocal talent are welcome. Harmony, rhythm and tone will be explored. Our musical material is influenced by what our choir members enjoy listening to, making each term all the more fun and unique! We request that participants needing one-on-one care or personal assistance be accompanied by an assistant while taking part in the choir. Come share your passion for singing and spread rays of sunshine!
