Jazz Camp Advanced

America’s art form has become sophisticated. Since the Bebop era that began in the 1940’s jazz musicians have rivaled their classical counterparts in skill and virtuosity. Players venturing into the field of jazz and commercial music today need to have knowledge of many styles and a deep grasp of harmony. Advanced Jazz camp is for students who have already begun to explore the blues, modal and ii-V harmony and want to take it to the next level. This camp explores more advanced blues and other harmonic progressions and scales, a variety of styles including fusion, Latin, Brazilian, mixed meters, as well as listening to the great Jazz artists both present and past. The camp will include classes, workshops, performance groups as well as opportunities to jam. We recommend that students who participate in this camp be able to play and read at a 10th grade level, know all the major and minor scales, and that they have had some experience improvising with their school jazz ensemble or other related experience. A final performance to show a sample of the learning will take place on Friday July 20, 2012 at 2:30 pm for friends and family to attend.

Instructor: Bruce Staelens
