Jim Sisko, trumpeter, clinician, has become one of the most sought after teachers, and performers in the Northwest. Jim received his Masters in Trumpet Performance from Central Washington in 1997. While at CWU, he served as a teaching assistant in Trumpet, Jazz Improvisation, and Jazz History. Having grown up in the Northwest, Jim returned to Seattle in 1997 to continue his career as a performer and educator.

Shortly after returning to Seattle, his quintet was featured in the "Art of Jazz Series" sponsored by the Seattle Art Museum and KPLU. The Jim Sisko Quintet has been featured at countless festivals and concert venues, including Bumbershoot, the Port Townsend Jazz Festival and Jazz Under the Stars. In 1996, Jim created and organized the first Ellensburg Jazz Festival, which would later become Jazz in the Valley, one of the most popular music events in Eastern Washington.

Jim’s performances are not limited to Jazz as he has performed with The Seattle Symphony, and served as principal trumpet for the Yakima Symphony. As an active studio musician, Jim has recorded over 30 motion picture and television soundtracks, including The Matrix and Lake Placid. He has performed, and or recorded album projects with The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Natalie Cole, Barry Manilow, and The Manhattan Transfer. It was with the Glenn Miller Orchestra that Jim toured the U.S., Japan, and Europe as a featured soloist.

Jim’s private trumpet studio is a direct reflection of his playing experiences. His students are well versed in both classical and jazz styles, and are consistently recognized as some of the strongest players in the region.

In 2001, he replaced local Jazz legend Floyd Standifer as the Jazz director for the Northwest School, a liberal arts high school in Seattle. Jim is also the director of the Roy Cummings Memorial Big Band, a youth All-Star Band for Musicworks Northwest, and is the director of the Ballard Jazz Festival Youth Big Band.

Jim is in high demand as a clinician and soloist for colleges and high schools in the Northwest and abroad. His most recent travels include trips to Hong Kong and South Korea for performances and clinics with major universities and International schools. Jim Sisko plays Kanstul trumpets and Yamaha Flugelhorns.

Music Works is proud to offer individual trumpet lessons with Jim Sisko through Summer 2008. Call 425-644-0988 to register.
