Music Man Instrumental Ensemble, In collaboration with Youth Theater Northwest

Be part of an exciting new collaboration between Music Works Northwest and Youth Theater Northwest in a production of Music Man. This is a great opportunity to play a fun musical, learn from faculty at both organizations and most importantly collaborate with youth from a variety of artistic backgrounds. This is truly a one of a kind experience for young musicians, to be part of a musical theatre production working with singers, dancers, directors, and fellow instrumentalists.

Afro-Cuban Jazz Combo
Fred Hoadley has been and is currently a leading performer and authority on Afro-Cuban music in the northwest for 20 plus years. For decades, African-inspired Cuban music has influenced the world of Jazz with its infectious rhythms and beautiful melodies. Students will be able to work on improvisation through Afro-Cuban arrangements.

Beginning Group Piano
This 8-week course introduces students to the basic technique involved in playing the piano as well as beginning music theory. Fundamental concepts explored include: Hand position, note recognition and sight-reading, rhythm and meter, ensemble playing, individual repertoire, and composition/improvisation.

Classes are organized with a variety of activities that include: group rhythm and playing activities, individual worksheets to explore musical concepts, solo performances, ensemble performance, and computer based learning and composition activities.

Parents are required to provide, and bring, the following materials to each class:

Parents are not required to attend each class, but may be asked to do so depending on the needs of their child. This class holds a maximum of five students and will be filled on a first come, first serve bases. Materials will be required for the first day of this course!

Cello Choir
Music Works Cello Choir is a performing ensemble organized and conducted by Dr. Shiang-Yin Lee. It is designed to give cellists an opportunity to experience the repertoire and rich sound of a cello orchestra. The choir is open to cellists who have one year of experience on cello. Multiple sessions available for different age groups - middle school through adult!

I Love Music for Families with Young Children
I Love Music! is a developmental music and movement program for young children and their parents/caregivers. Through music, children and their parents/caregivers will be immersed in activities that support their child's development in a fun way while encouraging their musical growth. Because it is developmental in nature, I Love Music! is an inclusive, mixed age program that allows for each child's individual growth while having the fun of being in a group. Families bond through music which is a natural way to learn and connect.
