Claire Jones is a specialist in marimba, and the mbira music of Zimbabwe. Ms. Jones received her PH. D. in Ethnomusicology at the University of Washington in 2006. She also has an M. Ed. from the University of Washington and a B. S. from Cornell University. She works with the Ethnic Heritage Council of Seattle as an evaluator for the Festl series at the Seattle Center and worked as an Education Specialist at Northwest Folklife from 2001-2004. She has studied with Zimbabwean musicians Dr. Dumisani Maraire (in Seattle) and Mondreck Muchena and other traditional musicians in Zimbabwe. She currently leads the Seattle-based Mahonyera Mbira Ensemble and is a former member of Musango Marimba Ensemble, Mhuri Yekwa Muchena Mbira Group (Zimbabwe) and Dumi and the Maraire Marimba Ensemble. As founding member of Kutamba Marimba Ensemble, she collaborated with Fred West and the City Cantabile Choir in a marimba and choir arrangement of the Missa Luba.
