Vivace Flute Choir -- Coming in Fall 2008
If you are interested in joining an ensemble, it is required you speak with the instructor first. Although we have planned carefully, final confirmation of the ensemble schedules will be provided by the instructor. Please give us a call at 425-644-0988 and we'll put you in contact with them. Students need to be at an intermediate to advanced level on their instrument.
Guitar Orchestra
The Guitar Orchestra plays arrangements of music by Mozart, Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, Pachelbel, The Doors, Beethoven, Sam Cooke, Rick James, Miles Davis, John Lennon, The Beatles, The Ventures, Charlie Christian and other great composers. The orchestra is open to guitar players of all ages and levels; students should be able to read eighth notes in first positions (staff or Tab) and know basic chords. Students will enjoy playing great music together while improving guitar skills and musicianship.
The Guitar Orchestra will be led by Barry Pollack. Maestro Pollack is a Northwest based guitarist who has appeared with the Seattle Symphony, the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Ray Charles, Jeff Beck, the Joffrey Ballet, Mikael Baryshnikov and the Portland Opera Company.

African Marimba
Claire Jones is a skilled performer and teacher of the mbira and marimba music having studied and performed with Zimbabwean musicians such as Dr. Dumisani Maraire and Mondreck Muchena. Her approach challenges the ear and the hands to memorize incredible rhythmic parts from authentic repertory that will expand any musician’s rhythmic vocabulary.

Fusion Combo
Ron Cole is an accomplished performer in classical, jazz, rock and gospel genres. He brings expertise and joy to his rehearsals. Fusion is a multidimensional musical style that has evolved from the synthesis of rhythm and blues, rock & roll and jazz. Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin and many other artists have shaped this energetic music.

Jazz Combo
Jazz is almost 100 years old! The repertory demands of the music rival that of the classical and romantic periods of music. From Early Jazz to Be Bop, from Cool to Modern Jazz, today's jazz musicians have many distinct styles to draw from. Ron Cole will guide students through "standard" jazz repertory that is the basis for all professional pop and jazz musicians on the scene today.

Afro Cuban Combo
Fred Hoadley has been and is currently a leading performer and authority on Afro-Cuban music in the northwest for 20 plus years. For decades, African-inspired Cuban music has influenced the world of Jazz with its infectious rhythms and beautiful melodies. Students will be able to work on improvisation through Afro-Cuban arrangements.

Brazilian Jazz Combo
Eduardo Mendonça has lived for the past ten years in the Seattle area. He began performing in Seattle and traveling throughout the United States and Canada with the Bakra Bata steel drum band. Now, he has his own group known as Show Brazil!, which has gained much recognition in the past ten years. Show Brazil! has played throughout Western Washington and Brazil at events and locations such as the Folklife EduFestival, Bumbershoot, Seattle Children's International Festival, BrasilFest and many other locations. Eduardo teaches from the heart his own special, authentic knowledge of the colorful music from Brazil."

Prelude Flute Choir
Local area flute and piccolo specialist Linda Bailey will take students through a rigorous journey of a diverse range of flute ensemble repertoire. Students can expect to be challenged in a fun and exciting way. This class is perfect for students looking to play music with their peers and is a pre-cursor to the Vivace Flute Choir. The social experience of playing in a group can be one of the most valuable and exciting tools in a child’s musical development. Prelude Flute Choir is geared towards 6th - 8th graders with 1-year minimum playing experience or permission of the instructor.
