Camp Content:
In addition to the drum set, this camp also explores the roots of the grooves associated with Latin Music. Many of the rhythms in contemporary music have roots in the folkloric rhythms of Cuba, Africa and Brazil. As such it has become increasingly important to understand the differences between Latin rhythms as composers are taking the styles seriously.
Students will play in master class settings and also in small groups to work out specific groove patterns on congas, timbales, guiro and other instruments. The students will also learn how tunes are constructed around the clave.
