    Andrea Zomorodian:

Andrea is currently a Freshman BM in Vocal Arts @ Thornton School of Music (USC).

Prior to graduation, she won the Pitzer Voice Scholarship Competition at University Kiwanis, the Lake Washington Singers Voice Scholarship Competition, and was a finalist for the Sammamish Symphony Youth Concerto Competition.

Her duet with fellow Music Works alum Kasey Koopmans won the East Shore District Solo & Ensemble contest. Over the summer, she began an internship at Seattle Opera's Education Department with Perry Lorenzo. This semester she will appear in the Thornton Chamber Opera opera scenes program.

    Brian Yarkosky:

Brian is a Master of Music candidate and the University of Washington. His recital on December 11, 2007 fulfills a major requirement for graduation. He will be completing the degree including orals by June of 2008. Brian was a student of Scott Ketron at Music Works for 5 years.

During that time he won numerous district festivals in Puyallup and competed at the State Solo and Ensemble contest. Brian was also in the Music Works Percussion Ensemble and regularly performed as a soloist at Music Works and other community functions. He also studied with marimba virtuoso Julie Spencer during his Junior and Senior Year.

After High School he was accepted to Lawrence University, a conservatory in Appleton Wisconsin where he earned a BM, Bachelor of Music Performance in 2005.

Music Works Northwest was founded in 1966 as the Imperials Drum and Bugle Corps. In 1986 the organization undertook a slightly different role and changed its name to the Imperials Music and Youth Organization.

The Imperials program eventually grew to a point where 160 different sites were used to host programming. By 1998 both the Board and Administration felt that the time had come to consolidate all programming into one location. The organization moved to its current Eastgate/Factoria location and changed its name to Music Works Northwest.

Since 1998 the faculty has increased from three members to over fifty professional musicians. Since 1999 our recording studio has been used for numerous recording sessions, including over sixty film scores; these sessions employed musicians from throughout the region--including Seattle Symphony, Oregon Symphony, and, among others, musicians from the Vancouver Symphony in British Columbia.

Whether you marched with the Imperials, were a parent volunteer, or are a former private lessons student, we want to hear from you. Email music@musicworksnw.org to send your update.
